Alto Rooftop is Montclair’s only rooftop! Etched high on the outdoor wall of Tierney’s Tavern, one of the oldest buildings in town, appear the words, “Lovely day for a Guinness.” On an almost balmy November evening, you could have substituted “night” for “day.” There is not an open spot in a parking lot that easily holds a hundred cars.  On outdoor tables people indulge in the famous Tierney burger, nursing and chugging drinks of all kinds.  Inside, the bar is overflowing, every table full.  Sports play on seven screens. For more than a century, the Tierney family has offered Montclair and neighboring towns a local watering hole.  The place is open until 1AM. Just Jakes is your neighborhood bar and so much more! A family restaurant during the day transforms at night. There is live music, people dancing.  A walkthrough, if you can squeeze by, reveals a kaleidoscope of conversations: people who know each other; people getting to know each other. Its doors stay open until 2AM on weekends.

Pineapple Express occupies the spacious, former Lackawanna Train Terminal built in 1913, operative until 1980, the design of architect William Hull Botsford, who perished in the sinking of the Titanic.  The indoor space becomes even more impressive when live music brings people onto the dance floor, surrounded by the many tables where patrons enjoy drinks and the culinary delights of a team that won this year’s May World Championship Barbecue Contest. Pineapple Express is also the name of its signature cocktail, an enticing mix of Jalapeno-infused Tito’s vodka, pineapple, and lime. Ask for it from Vanessa at the bar. How she blends it will awaken your senses. Montclair Brewery is the only Brewery in Montclair! You can find events happening each week.
